Toiminta kartoitettiin asiantuntijoiden haastatteluilla, joissa hyödynnettiin puolistrukturoitua teemahaastattelurunkoa. Benchmarking-tutkimuksessa tutkimuskohteiden toimintaa vertailtiin keskenään hyvien käytäntöjen löytämiseksi. Tutkimustulosten ja teoreettisen viitekehyksen pohjalta luotiin suosituksia toimeksiantajalle toiminnan kehittämiseksi.
Opinnäytetyössä vertailtavat kumppanuusverkostot erosivat toisistaan monella tavalla.
The aim of this qualitative thesis was to compare partnership networks of five destination management organizations operating in Finland and identify best practices in their operations. The goal of the study was for Visit Tampere to gain insight into the operations of other destination management organizations' partnership networks and utilize the research findings in developing its own partnership network.
The thesis was based on benchmarking research, where the areas for improvement were first identified and the operations of both Visit Tampere and the benchmarked networks were analyzed. The operations were assessed by interviewing experts with the help of a semi-structured interview frame. In the benchmarking research, the activities of the research subjects were compared with each other to find similarities and common best practices. Recommendations for Visit Tampere to improve their operations were then created based on the research findings and theoretical framework.
The partnership networks compared in the thesis differed in many ways. Differences were observed in, among other things, the models of partnership networks, memberships, internal communications within the networks, and services offered to members. However, the ultimate goal of integrating local businesses into the collective operations of the tourism industry was a common factor among all of the partnership networks.
The study found that the ownership structures of destination management organizations had influenced the formation and operation of partnership networks. Additionally, it was noted that various criteria were set for partner companies to join the networks. Some partnership networks offered services tailored to the needs of partner companies, while in others, the offered services were the same for all companies regardless of their needs. Internal communication within the network was a subject of continuous improvement in many of the studied partnership networks, and a digital collaboration platform was seen as a solution for better communication within networks.
Based on the research findings and theoretical framework, it was suggested that Visit Tampere could develop its partnership network for example by creating criteria for its members and offering different service packages tailored to their needs.
