Aineisto kerättiin seitsemällä teemahaastattelulla Etelä-Suomen Klubitalot ESKOT ry:n Klubitalojen jäseniltä, jotka ovat pelanneet Lilinkotisäätiön The World of Recovery -mobiilipeliä. Haastateltavien keski-ikä oli 50 vuotta.
Soveltavan tutkimuksen tarkoituksena oli selvittää, millaisia kokemuksia The World of Recovery -mobiilipelin käyttäjillä on pelin merkityksestä heidän hyvinvointinsa edistymiselle sekä käyttäjäkokemuksia pelistä. Tavoitteena oli, että tuotetun tiedon avulla voidaan kehittää The World of Recovery -mobiilipelin tai vastaavien hyötypelien hyvinvointia edistävää sisältöä ja käyttäjäkokemusta. Lisäksi kerätyn tiedon avulla pyrittiin lisäämään ymmärrystä siitä, miten pelillisyyttä voidaan hyödyntää osana aikuisten sosiaalipalveluja.
Soveltavan tutkimuksen tulosten mukaan The World of Recovery -mobiilipelin tehtävät lisäsivät jonkin verran käyttäjien arkiliikuntaa, mutta erityisesti peli innosti käyttäjiä luovan ilmaisun ja oman pohdinnan hyödyntämiseen.
In addition to treatment of mental health disorders, there is a need for preventive solutions. Gamification and serious games serve as motivating and empowering methods to support individuals’ mental health and well-being. When developing digital serious games, it is important to utilize researched information and consider factors influencing user experience.
The thesis was conducted as applied qualitative research. Data was collected through seven thematic interviews with members of Etelä-Suomen Klubitalot ESKOT ry’s Clubhouses, who had played Lilinkotisäätiö’s The World of Recovery mobile game. The average age of the interviewees was 50 years.
The purpose of this applied research was to investigate the experiences of The World of Recovery mobile game users regarding its significance for their well-being progress and their overall user experiences with the game. The goal was to use the produced information to improve the well-being-promoting content and user experiences of The World of Recovery mobile game or similar serious games. Additionally, the gathered information aimed to enhance the understanding of how gamification can be utilized within adult social services.
According to the results of the applied research, The World of Recovery mobile game’s tasks slightly increased user’s daily physical activity, but notably, the game inspired users in creative expression and personal reflection. Personal feedback on the tasks seemed to significantly reinforce the game’s motivational impact. The user experiences with the mobile game were mainly positive. These findings indicate that gamification and digital games can be utilized to support adults’ mental health and well-being. However, the suitability of the game for users depends on personal and situational factors.
