Tiivistelmä
The reason this study was conducted was to bring more attention to the issues facing international jobseekers and the barriers that exist. The intention of the research is to answer the main question of “What are the main issues that non-Finnish speakers or foreigners face when searching/applying for a job?” The outcome should also help answer why there has been a harder retention rate of foreign workers in Finland.
The methods used in this study were with aid of primary and secondary data and sources, while mostly using inductive methods to form a summary about the current situation of the labour market. The research focuses on the published works of Ahmad (2020) and his study of ethnicity-based discrimination in Finland. The empirical study was focused on primary data collected by survey and interview. The survey consisted of 26 open-based questions with qualitative reasoning. The survey had a total of 35 participants.
The main result of the study shows that there are noticeable barriers and discrimination that face international workers. With language and ethnicity-based discrimination playing a significant role into the issues with the current labour market. While gender equality is rather positive in Finland, there are improvements still needed to be made. Further study is required to get a larger scope of international workers in Finland. As well as observing the impact of the government reforms coming in 2025.
