Tiivistelmä
This study aimed to investigate the impact of telehealth on healthcare resource utilization during the COVID-19 pandemic in Finland, focusing on healthcare access, costs, and quality of care. A narrative literature review methodology was employed, utilizing six relevant studies collected from various databases, including Google Scholar, PubMed, Theseus, Research Gate, Science Direct, and Semantic Scholar. The dataset was limited to 2012-2023, and search terms included "Telehealth," "COVID-19," "Finland," "healthcare resource utilization," and related topics. The data was analysed using thematic content analysis.
The study found that telehealth positively impacted healthcare resource utilization in Finland. Specifically, telehealth improved healthcare access by allowing patients to receive care remotely, reducing the need for physical appointments and increasing accessibility for individuals with mobility limitations. Moreover, telehealth reduced healthcare costs by getting rid of the need for in-person appointments, reducing the burden on healthcare facilities, and improving efficiency. Additionally, the use of telehealth led to an enhancement in the quality of care by enabling healthcare professionals to monitor patients more effectively and efficiently.
Overall, the study suggests that telehealth has revolutionized healthcare delivery in Finland, with positive implications for healthcare access, costs, and quality of care. The authors highlight the importance of continued investment in telehealth technologies to ensure that all individuals have access to high-quality healthcare, regardless of their location or circumstances. The findings also suggest that telehealth will continue to be a vital tool for healthcare providers in Finland even after the COVID-19 pandemic has ended.
