Tiivistelmä
Immigrant entrepreneurship has a significant positive impact on a country's economy and global competitiveness. Immigrants are more likely to be entrepreneurs than their native counterparts. This research was motivated by the currently growing immigrant diaspora businesses on a small scale in different cities in Finland. Despite the growing number of immigrant businesses in different fields, the number of studies available on the topic is very low.
This research studies literature and theories on immigrant entrepreneurship and it’s theoretical framework. Both deductive and inductive reasoning is used while the qualitative research approach is used for the data collection. The primary data were collected from semi-structured interviews with five diaspora immigrant entrepreneurs operating in four different cities in Finland. The secondary data is collected from sources such as articles, journals, and books.
This thesis' findings complement the existing literature. Lack of job opportunities and language barriers are the major issues faced by immigrant entrepreneurs according to literature and empirical findings. Ethic communities and networks appear to be crucial elements for the survival of immigrant businesses. These major factors should be considered for policymaking and future research.
