Tiivistelmä
Tutkimuksen tarkoitus on perehtyä kansallispukujen ohjeisiin, niiden kehitykseen, käyttäjäkokemukseen ja nykyajan teknologian tuomiin mahdollisuuksiin ymmärrettävämpien ja kokonaisvaltaisempien ohjeiden valmistamisessa. Tutkimuksen tuotoksena syntyy kaksi kansallispuvuissa käytettävän ompelutekniikan ohjetta.
The objective of this thesis was to examine the sewing instructions of Finnish national costumes, their development throughout the years, user experience and what possibilities modern technology brings to the production process of the instructions. Two guidelines for sewing techniques used in national costumes were generated as the output of the study. The study primarily focuses on conceptual drawing and analysis of their characteristics and elements.
The study was conducted through qualitative research methods, which included comparative study, semiotic image-analysis, and in-depth interview. The interviews were used to map the experiences of the focus group and their positive and negative observations of the national costume sewing instructions. Based on this information, two guidelines for sewing techniques used in national costumes were implemented in the production part. The study examined instructions from past decades to compare their elements and characteristics and to see how they have evolved over time. The goal was to form an overview of the spectrum of sewing instructions and to study their use, significance, and history as a part of craftsmanship of national costumes. In addition, the study addressed benefits of modern technology in creating and distributing these instructions.
The
study shows how important illustrations are in creating easy to
understand instructions and in improving the user experience of the learning
processes. It also shows the different stages of development sewing
instructions have gone through over the dec ades and demonstrates the value
and importance of national costumes in our folk culture.
The research was done in collaboration with the Finnish National Costume Association Raita ry. The instruction illustrations created as a part of the study will be used on Raita ry's Tietokirstu project website. The illustrations contribute to the progress of the project and improve the development of access to national costume knowledge for national costume enthusiasts.
