Yhteistoiminnallinen pilotointi ajoittui vuoden 2022 alkuun.
The purpose of this thesis was to increase inclusion and to develop clear instructions for working with social media and how to network as an artist. The commissioner of this thesis, Atelier23, is an Art Studio in The Netherlands for artists with developmental disabilities or special support needs due to a neuropsychiatric disorder.
A range of development methods were employed. An observation diary served as a tool throughout the development work. A stakeholder analysis mapped the stakeholders associated with Atelier23 and their importance. An initial survey included questionnaires for the Atelier23 team including three instructors, one volunteer, and an intern, all of whom responded to the survey independently. Semi-structured interviews were conducted with the artists and 39 out of 45 artists participated.
Data was collected to clarify the needs of the development work and to identify artists who would be interested in participating in a collaborative pilot. The collected data was qualitatively analysed, and relevant information was extracted. The collected material was also grouped under specified themes and visualized. Clarifying conversations were held with the instructors during autumn 2021 and presentations were held to keep key stakeholders informed throughout the process.
The collaborative pilot took place in the first quarter of 2022, for a total of eight weeks. During the period two guide booklets were created: a guide to networking and building exhibitions and a guide to creating attractive social media posts. The former was created in collaboration with two artists and its instructions were tested in practise as a part of the pilot. The latter was also designed in collaboration with two artists and the templates of the booklet were trialled during the pilot. At the end of the piloting period, presentations were given with the artists for other members of the work community. These presentations covered artists’ experiences during the piloting, the final outputs and how they could be used. The results of the work were discussed with artists, instructors, and other members of the work community.
Key themes of this development work were appreciative encounter, different forms of communication and increasing inclusion through collaborative methods. Collaborative piloting and related steps can serve as an example for other operators in the field of social work and inspire similar pilot projects elsewhere.
