The purpose of the qualitative study was to investigate how stage fright affects the players of brass instruments. The purpose of the study was also to find out and discuss how stage fright and the volume of its symptoms affected brass players of various skill levels. In addition, the purpose of the research was also to find which factors had the greatest impact on the perception of stage fright and the volume of the symptoms in brass players.
The method of data collection was interviews. In addition to the interviews, the theo-retical basis and frame of reference were compiled using various sources.
Brass players of different ages and skill levels were interviewed for the study. They played brass instruments as a hobby, were studying to be professionals or already were professionals. With such sampling, it provided answers from many different perspec-tives, which increased the reliability of the study.
From the data, it was found that brass players studying to be professionals felt the most symptoms of stage fright. They also felt these symptoms more strongly than oth-ers. The novice hobbyist and the long-standing professional felt the least symptoms and the volume of these symptoms were lower than the other interviewees.
Symptoms of stage fright relieved when performance experience increased. For the brass player, the performance location did not have a major effect on the volume of symptoms of stage fright. The level of difficulty of the piece to be performed had a great influence on how strongly the symptoms of stage fright manifested. Some of the brass players felt that they received support from friends for the performance situa-tion, but others were more disturbed by them. Authorities in the audience increased the feeling of stage fright.
