Osa teknologioista on vasta kehitystasolla tehden tutkielmasta kapean.
Opinnäytetyössä tehtiin myös katsaus eri alustyyppeihin ja siihen, miten autonomia näkyy niissä tänä päivänä. Autonomisten alusten tulevaisuudennäkymissä tuotiin esille mahdollisia skenaariota seuraavien 0–20 vuoden aikana.
Opinnäytetyön lopussa tehtiin yhteenveto autonomisten laivojen ja alusten tilanteesta, josta pystyttiin toteamaan kehityksen olleen nopeaa viimeisten vuosikymmenten aikana. Autonomisten laivojen ja alusten markkinoille saapumisen todettiin olevan vielä epävarmaa kehityksen ollessa vasta alussa. This thesis was a survey of autonomous ships and vessels. There was no client for this thesis, so I worked as the author. The thesis introduces history of autonomy and development from self-moving cart to the concept of an autonomous ship. The development of autonomous vessels was considered from 1970 until the present day.
The thesis reviewed the levels of maritime automation and how the development of automation increases utility and ecology. The disadvantages and benefits of safety were discussed in their own section.
In the technology of autonomous vessels, the technical side and what new technologies are required by autonomous vessels were studied in more detail. Some of the technologies are still at the development level, which narrowed the study.
The thesis also provides an overview of the different types of vessels and how autonomy is reflected in them today. The prospects for autonomous vessels set out possible scenarios for the next 0-20 years.
At the end of the thesis, a summary was made of the situation of autonomous ships and vessels, from which it was possible to state that the development has been rapid in recent decades. The entry of autonomous ships and vessels into the market was found to be still uncertain at an early stage of development.
