Malli rakentui potilashaastatteluiden tulosten perusteella, joita asiantuntijaraadissa tarkasteltiin myöhemmässä vaiheessa. Lopullinen malli tuotettiin asiantuntijaraadin kommenttien pohjalta. Tuotos luovutettiin Salon sairaala 2023- hankkeen suunnittelijoiden käyttöön. The development project was implemented as a part of Salo Hospital 2023 -project, which is a joint venture for Varsinais-Suomen sairaanhoitopiiri (VSSHP) and city of Salo, where the plan is to create new facilities for Tyks Salo hospital.
The goal of the development project was to collect the wishes and expectations for the new premises from the hemodialysis patients, and produce user based information to guide the design process. By using the patient sourced input to guide the design process, patient welfare will be improved, and the quality of treatment and safety improved.
Having the patients participate in the design process will help to define the meaningful properties that affect the physical design of the premises. Nursing environment and premises have a strong impact on patient experience. At best they improve and accelerate the recovery process.
Exploratory part of this development project was implemented in two phases. In the first phase hemodialysis patients and an expert by experience was interviewed by phone (n=5). Collected material was analyzed using content analysis. The second phase was implemented by assembling an expert panel from nurses and an expert by experience (n=4), and having a themed panel discussion.
Results of the interviews highlighted the needs and wishes for more spacious premises. The most common wish was a more spacious waiting room and an obstacle free toilet. It was also wished that the colors used would be light and calm, with enlivening art. Natural light and -views were seen important and improving the comfortability. Having the nurses in close vicinity was seen as an important part affecting the safety during the hemodialysis treatment. Location of the premises was hoped to be near the hospital entrance.
As a product of the development project, a patient-centered facility design -model was created. The model was built using the patient interviews that were examined with the expert panel. The final model was produced using the comments by the expert panel. The resulting model collects the main features that were requested for the new hemodialysis premises. The model was handed over to the designers of Salo Hospital 2023 -project.
