Tiivistelmä
Opinnäytetyön tavoitteena oli tutkia, kuinka kahden meriteollisuusyrityksen myyntityössä voidaan hyödyntää virtuaalitodellisuutta. Toimeksiantajina toimivat yritykset Awake.AI ja ALMACO Group. Tutkimuksessa käydään lävitse lyhyesti virtuaalitodellisuuden historiaa, teknologiaa ja mitä tulevaisuudelta on odotettavissa. Varsinainen tutkimus keskittyy myyntityön tehostamiseen virtuaalitodellisuuden osalta.
Tutkimus löysi muutamia vaihtoehtoisia työtapoja Awake.AI:n tarpeisiin ja ALMACO:n kohdalla määriteltiin uusi prosessi, jossa suunnitteluosasto osaa tukea myyntiosastoa virtuaalitodellisuuden tarpeissa. Lisäksi tutkimuksessa todettiin, että virtuaalitodellisuus havainnollistaa hyvin asiakkaille, millaisia palveluita ja tuotteita yritykset tarjoavat. Kuitenkin virtuaalilasien hankala siirreltävyys myyntipalavereihin ympäri maailmaa on tällä hetkellä suurin haaste.
The objective of this thesis was to investigate, how two different maritime companies can improve their sales processes with virtual reality. The clients were Awake.AI and ALMACO Group. The study briefly reviews the history of virtual reality, virtual reality technology and what to expect from the future. The actual research process focuses on how to streamline the sales processes and how virtual reality can be implemented. In addition, the thesis compares if there are any differences in how these two maritime companies are using virtual reality.
The research process started by mapping how things were done previously and by discussing how these workflows could be improved. The thesis focused specifically on how to improve 3Dmodeling speed and on answering the following questions, what are the customer expectations and how easily can the 3D-models be updated. The research found new ways to work and solved one of the most challenging problems; how to import large CAD-files to game engine. Other ways of automatizing modelling processes were also found.
The research found alternative ways to work which helped Awake.AI’s sales process. ALMACO Group got a new guidance on how the engineering department can support the sales process and prepare the models for virtual reality. In addition, the thesis reviewed how the companies’ clients understand what kind of services the companies are offering. The biggest challenge is the transportation of virtual glasses to the sales meetings around the globe.
In the future, virtual reality technology will evolve at a tremendous pace forward. It’s possible that virtual reality glasses will become a much common tool, which means there would be no need to transport them. Clients will become more used to virtual reality and willing to use the technology in a wide scale.
