Tiivistelmä
Opinnäytetyön tarkoitus oli avata motivaatio -käsitettä ikäihmisten kohdalla. Ikäihmisten asuessa omassa kodissaan entistä pidempään, on kuntoutukseen osallistuvien
Työn tietopohjana toimi Inhimillinen toiminnan malli (MOHO).
The purpose of the thesis was to examine the concept of the motivation of elderly people. As the elderly live longer in their own homes, rehabilitation teams must understand the different factors related to motivation. The motivation of the client is an integral part of a successfull rehabilitation process, and the emergence and maintenance of the motivation can be supported.
The thesis was implemented as a narrative literature review. The data search was performed in three databases (PubMed, CINAHL, Google Scholar), and one study was selected from each database. Additionally a manual search was performed, and one article was selected. The articles selected from the databases were published between 2017- 2019 and the article from the manual search in 2009.
The analysis of the data was conducted by theory-driven content analysis. The Model of Human Occupations (MOHO) was used as the theorybasis. The data was categorized and raported based on the four different elements (voliton, habituation, capacity, environment) of the Model of Human Occupations.
According to the results, the factors that affect motivation can be divided into intrinsic and extrinsic factors. The intrinsic factors, such as determination, responsibilty or will to stay independent, described the character and personality of the elderly clients. Extrinsic factors included, for example, feedback, encouragenment and support from the social and the physical environment. The factors could either increase or decrease motivation, or one of the factors could have a stronger impact than another. The individuality of the elderly client was a factor that was highlighted in the research articles. Understanding and recognition of the individual factors related to motivation required a thorough familiarization with the individual as a whole.
