Customer orientation is mentioned as one of the development objects in tourism both at the national and at the regional level. The purpose of this thesis was to find out about customer satisfaction at the Outokumpu Old Mine’s motorcycle café and how to develop it. The thesis was executed as a commission to Matkakumpu Company. Customer insight was taken as a point of view. The main research problem was how satisfied customers of the Outokumpu Old Mine’s motorcycle café are. In addition to this it was examined if there is any interest among customers to participate in overnight meeting drive and what kind of person is a typical visitor at the Outokumpu Old Mine’s motorcycle café.
Customer insight, customer experience and customer satisfaction and matters influencing them were treated in the theoretical part of this thesis. The segmentation and the customer profile, which influence the forming of customer insight, were covered in the theoretical part.
The research was carried out by using quantitative method. The customers of the Outokumpu Old Mine’s motorcycle café were outlined as the population of the research. The sampling method used was the convenience sampling, so called non-probability sample. The self-selection sample was also used as a sampling method, because customers could decide if they participate in the survey or not. Because of the chosen sampling method inferential statistics cannot be used and therefore there are some varying of the research results. The research was implemented by using a printed questionnaire during 6.6.-5.9.2019, the number of responses received was 107 and the response rate was 45,9. The received material was handled and analysed by using Excel and Webropol-software.
From the research results it could be concluded that the customers of Outokumpu Old Mine’s motorcycle café have reviewed services as good, the average value was 3,3 (on a scale of 1-4). There was also a clear interest among the customers of Outokumpu Old Mine’s motorcycle café to participate in the overnight meeting drive. It could also be concluded from the results that the typical visitor at the motorcycle café was a 51-60-year-old person from eastern Finland who has come to the motorcycle café with a motorcycle club and who has visited the café before. In addition to the typical visitor of the motorcycle café, two other customer profiles were created which could be utilized when planning and developing operations at Outokumpu Old Mine’s motorcycle café.
Judging by the results there are other objects which need to be developed at the Outokumpu Old Mine’s motorcycle café, such as the selection of products. Based on the open responses, music and motorcycle props are requested. Concrete solutions for developing the operation to make it more customer orientated, such as noticing special diets and measuring customer satisfaction regularly, will be provided at the end of this thesis.
