The aim of this Bachelor´s thesis was to plan and carry out Green Care with Art Therapy methods – group activities at a service home for the elderly and study the experiences and changes to their wellbeing brought by the activities. The goal was to clarify whether the activities would be useful for them and if they could be taken into use at the service home as one form of recreational activities.
The thesis was conducted as a functional thesis and the research approach used was a qualitative one. Methods for gathering material included the participants´ own stories about their experiences, observations by the instructor, the relatives and the nurses and the output from the activities.
The functional part was organized at the service home for the elderly. It consisted of the group that dealt with Green Care with art therapy methods.
The theoretical part dealt with memory disorder, the creativity and wellbeing of a pa-tient with a memory disorder, Green Care and the effect of senses in elderly care, in-teraction and art therapy methods in the care of patients with a memory disorder. In addition, the security of the group was observed. On the basis of theoretical parts and functional group activities conclusions were drawn and reflected over regarding the experiences and changes brought by Green Care-centred art therapy activities, and the effects they had on the everyday wellbeing of the elderly at the service home.
Based on the experiences from the activities and instructor´s observations, it can be stated that the activities suit well as recreational activities at service home and they have positive effects on the quality of life of the elderly. These effects are mainly experiential.
