The aim of this study is to create a blueprint for an activity room for long-term ill children at a hospital based on long-term ill children’s needs and wishes. The aim with the activity room is that all children regardless of the functional capacity will have a chance to perform activities and play. The aim is also that the child would be stimulated of the environment and that the child would forget about the long-term illness for the moment. With the help of the research questions of this study about how the children want the activity room to look like, what kind of activities and games there should be in the activity room and how do you create an activity room that is available for everyone, a blueprint has been created and a finished product has been made. The final product is a blueprint of an activity room for long-term ill children in hospital. This study is based on Kari Salonen (2013) constructive model which has been as support during the project. Interview has worked as a method for this study to collect material and 15 children in the ages of four to eight years have come up with wishes and opinions regarding the activity room. In order for the activity room to be accessible for everyone, Universal Design’s seven principles has been used as a base during the creation of the blueprint. Since play is a central part of the activity room has social pedagogy worked as theoretical reference because play is a form of social pedagogy. Also activity and its importance for the child and occupational justice has worked as theoretical reference. Literature about accessibility guidelines, asepsis and hygiene but also safety aspects have also been used during the creation of the blueprint. The mid-term evaluation has been done through a web survey that the children and parents have responded to. Based on the web survey, changes about the activity room have been made so that the activity room suits all children. The final evaluation has been done with the help of Universal Design’s seven principles to evaluate the accessibility of the activity room. Based on interview and web survey it became clear that the most popular activities and plays where climbing a climbing wall, playing with a train track and playing home plays. The most popular colors were the rainbow colors. Based on interview and web survey, the children’s wishes and needs regarding the activity room have been met. The activity room is available for everyone and there is room for moving with wheelchair, walker and hospital bed. In the activity room the child can spend time with other children and the child can perform various activities and play in a pleasant environment.
