Tiivistelmä
This study is made to give a basis for understanding generation Y, also referred as millennials, as workforce. Objective of this study is to present and study the different factors affecting the motivation of millennials, to see their role in organizations and based on the findings to create management tips and guidelines. The purpose is to investigate the work conditions sought by millennials working in luxury hotels, to present the most desired work environment and to look for management tactics to support and optimize motivation and thus productivity.
Millennials are ambitious, independent, want to be empowered and expect rapid career progression. In this thesis process it was found out that learning and development opportunities play a big role as a motivational factor with feedback and approachable management. Millennials need to feel that they are valued and have a purpose in the organization. Also a wide benefits system is expected from an employer in hotel industry. It should be acknowledged by managers that there is a lot they can do to motivate this generation to get the full potential of this young workforce.
