Även ledningens roll i implementeringsprocessen presenteras.
The subject of this thesis is ABC-costing, also called activity-based costing. The thesis deals with the advantages ABC-costing can contribute with for the operations for small and medium-sized companies. The thesis aims to provide an insight into and explain what activity-based costing is and what the targeted companies can find through implementation of activity-based costing in their daily operations. Even the management’s role in the implementation process will be presented.
In the theoretical part of this thesis the significance of cost accounting for companies of this size will be presented. Three of the so called traditional cost accounting models will be presented and then a more detailed description of the ABC-model, its history and the different phases in the calculation process and implementation process. The survey is conducted in the form of literature studies and personal interview with the CFO of Sylvass Ab.
The conclusion shows that the ABC calculation may well be adapted to companies of smaller size without substantial resources. The result of the interview suggests that the very foundation of an applied model of an ABC-calculation, for a company of smaller scale does not initially require a lot of resources, the development of viable and useful cost accounting systems however presumably requires more resources.
