Tiivistelmä
Supraharmonics is a phenomenon that has been around for a while, but the research on the topic has remained relatively limited. More self-commutated components are installed in the electrical network, and much higher frequencies will generate to electrical networks in the supraharmonic area of 2-150 kHz. The main reason is the growth of electric vehicles and renewable energy. The mass-market electronic product may cause network disruption, which can cause network infrastructure malfunctions. Recently, the supraharmonic frequency range of 2–150 kHz has raised interest, and the regulation, test, measurement methods, and permitted limits are currently under development.
This thesis focuses on the challenges of supraharmonics and the phenomenon's impact on electricity network devices. The main goal was to investigate the causes of supraharmonics on electrical devices and whether some supraharmonic disturbance levels will cause premature aging or direct damage to devices connected to the same network as a power supply with supraharmonic content. The thesis also aimed to answer questions about supraharmonic sources and how it propagates in the network, the current situation, and prospects for the future. Expert interviews were the primary research method of the thesis.
The result of this thesis shows that supraharmonics can impact the devices and their long-term duration. Frequently, when a device is connected to the same network with supraharmonics, the most common effects are additional heating of device components, the generation of audible noise, and malfunction. The definition of high frequencies in combination with high voltage presence may cause an impact on devices connected to the network. Supraharmonics can therefore trigger the devices' warming process, and the warming itself causes the device premature aging.
