Työn tutkimuksessa painotettiin haarautuvien rakenneputkiliitosten hitsauksen mahdollisuuksia hitsausrobotilla. Hitsaus suoritettiin kuusiakselisella Motoman robotilla Lappeenrannan-Lahden teknillisen yliopisto LUT:n hitsauslaboratoriossa.
Tulosten analyysissa verrattiin kokeellisen osuuden robottihitsausprosessia aikaisempiin tutkimuksiin. This bachelor’s thesis was done as a part of the European Union funded project Hitsaus osaksi Etelä-Karjalan elinvoimaa ja näkyvyyttä (HITOKSEEN) -project. The objective of this bachelor thesis was to investigate the robotic welding of tubular bodies and the robotization of welding. The research focus was on the possibilities of welding branching structural pipes with a welding robot. An overview of robotic welding and its possibilities was conducted in the theory section of this thesis. In addition, welding robots and their functions and the definition of a pipe were reviewed, as well as various applications of tubular bodies. The welding tests were performed with a six-axis Motoman robot in the Lappeenranta-Lahti University of Technology LUT welding laboratory. During the testing part, there were a total of five test specimens that consisted of two tubular pieces. Three of those test pieces consisted of a horizontal structural pipe and a branching pipe at an angle. The branching pipes were at a 60-degree angle and the other two test specimens were at a perpendicular angle of 90 degrees. Two of the specimens had air gaps before welding and their effect on the weld was analyzed using a close-up macro picture.
In the results section, the nominal and effective weld a-measures were calculated using the ToupView program. In the analysis of the results, the robot welding process of the test part of this thesis was compared to previous studies. Results were compared with findings from the theoretical part of this thesis and peer-reviews articles related to the welding branching tubes. The micro pictures with the test specimens which had an air gap were unimpaired and no defects were visible. In the results section of this thesis, it was observed that the welding of branching structural pipes with a robot is possible. Further research should be conducted regarding the welding of larger test specimens and more research should be done on the arrangement of the welding station.
