Tiivistelmä
Tämän kandidaatintyön tarkoituksena on selvittää sopiiko ilma-vesilämpöpumppu öljykattilan rinnalle omakotitalokiinteistössä. Kiinteistö on vuonna 2003 valmistunut hirsirakenteinen omakotitalo, jossa on vesikiertoinen lattialämmitysjärjestelmä. Kiinteistöä lämmitetään kaksoipesäkattilalla, jossa polttoaineena käytetään pääasiassa öljyä. Öljyn hintojen nousun seurauksena kiinteistön omistaja on miettinyt ilma-vesilämpöpumpun hankintaa.
The goal of this Bachelor’s thesis is to find out if an air-to-water heat pump is suitable alongside an oil boiler in a detached house property. The property is a log framed detached house completed in 2003, with a water circulation underfloor heating system. The property is heated with a combination oil/wood hot water boiler, where oil is mainly used as a fuel. As a result of the rise in oil prices, the owner of the property has been thinking about investing in an air-to-water heat pump. In addition, this thesis examines the profitability of the possible investment using the payback period and various sensitivity analyses.
Air-to-water heat pumps are functionally similar to traditional air-to-air heat pumps. In an air-to-water heat pump the water or refrigerant circulating in the pump binds the thermal energy of the outside air in the evaporator and releases it in the condenser to the water circulation heating system of the building. The operation of air-to-water heat pumps is limited in cold temperatures. As the temperature decreases, the heat pump’s efficiency decreases, and at temperatures below –20 °C the heat pump can turn itself off. Because of this, the air-to-water heat pump always needs a backup heating system in Finnish conditions. In this case, the backup heating system would be oil heating.
In the thesis, it was noticed that the combined use of an air-to-water heat pump and an oil boiler would result in considerable savings. The payback period for the air-to-water heat pump was also shorter than its operational life. In the sensitivity analyses, the effect of variation in oil and electricity prices on heating expenses and payback time was examined. In all cases, it was concluded that combined use is a more profitable option than oil heating alone. It could therefore be concluded that the investment of an air-to-water heat pump is profitable for the property in question.
