Kiinteistöt, joissa on valmiiksi jatkuva ilmanvaihto soveltuvat parhaiten säätömarkkinoille. The aim of this work was to find out how ventilation system in buildings can be utilized in electrical power balancing markets. In this work the components of the ventilation system that are affected by adjustment in power consumption are presented. The electric power balancing markets and their requirements are presented. The restrictions on the use of the ventilation system in the control market are reviewed. Finally, the operation of the ventilation system in the balancing market is modelled.
In terms of electric power control, the most important components of the ventilation system are the fans of the ventilation system. Adjusting the fan power affects the airflow in the ventilation system, which affects the need for heating energy. The most important components in terms of heating energy are the heating elements and heat recovery.
The balancing markets include the balancing energy and balancing capacity markets, automatic frequency restoration reserve, frequency containment reserves, fast frequency reserves, the day-ahead market, and the intraday market. Not all ventilation systems are suitable for all balancing markets, either due to the reserve capacity they provide or factors that limit the use of the ventilation system. Individual ventilation system may need to be integrated into a larger entity for the ventilation systems to participate in different balancing markets.
In terms of energy consumption and costs, reducing power consumption is the most profitable option. Increasing power consumption increases energy consumption and costs. Equal up and down adjustment of the power corresponded to the normal operation of the machine in terms of energy consumption and costs.
According to the results of the work, ventilation systems are best suited for balancing markets, where power is down-adjusted or down- and up-adjusted. Such electricity markets include the day-ahead market and frequency containment reserves. Properties with continuous ventilation are best suited for the power balancing markets.
