Tiivistelmä
Tämän tutkielman aiheena on word of mouthin rooli kuluttajan ostopäätösprosessissa. Tutkimuksessa selvitetään, miten word of mouth vaikuttaa kuluttajan ostopäätösprosessiin mennä pelaamaan golfia niin kutsutuille vieraskentille. Tutkimuksen päätutkimuskysymys on: ”Millainen rooli word of mouthilla on kuluttajan ostopäätöksessä? Päätutkimuksen tukena on kaksi alatutkimuskysymystä: ”Mitkä eri kanavat vaikuttavat ostopäätökseen vieraskentälle mentäessä” ja ”Millä tavalla suomalaiset kuluttajat hyödyntävät word of mouthia vieraskentälle mennessään?”.
Kyseessä on laadullinen tutkimus, johon on kerätty aineisto haastattelemalla viittä useasti vieraskentillä pelaavaa kuluttajaa. Haastattelut olivat puolistrukturoituja teemahaastatteluita, ja niistä saatu aineiston analysoinnin menetelmänä käytettiin sisällönanalyysiä.
Tutkimuksen tuloksien mukaan word of mouthilla on merkitystä useaan ostopäätösprosessin vaiheeseen vieraskenttää valitessa. Sekä perinteinen että elektroninen word of mouth toimivat tarpeen herättäjinä ja tietolähteinä. Lisäksi kuluttajat jakavat itse tietoa kokemuksistaan, joten word of mouth on osana myös ostoksen jälkeisessä käyttäytymisessä. Tutkimuksessa huomattiin, että suomalaisten golf-seurojen viestintä on osittain puutteellista, minkä vuoksi word of mouth saa kuluttajien keskuudessa niin suuren merkityksen. The topic of this bachelor’s thesis is to find out the impact of Word of mouth on customers’ buying decision process. The purpose of this thesis is to find out how the word of mouth affects customers’ buying decision process to play golf in so called alternate courses. The main question is “What is the word of mouth’s role in the buying decision process” and the secondary questions are “Which different channels have an impact on customers’ buying decision process” and “How Finnish customers utilize word of mouth when they go to play to an alternate course?”
The study was carried out as a qualitative study and the data was collected by interviewing five Finnish golfers who play regularly. The interviews were semi-structured theme interviews and the data that was collected was analyzed using the content analysis.
According to the results of this study, the word of mouth has a significant impact on customers’ buying decision process while choosing an alternate course to play on. Both traditional and electronic word of mouth helps customers to recognize a need and help them with the information search. In addition, customers share their experiences, so word of mouth also has an impact on post-purchase behaviour. It was found out that the communication of Finnish golf clubs is inadequate. Because of that, the word of mouth has such a big impact as a source of information.
