Hiring the best talents in the software industry is challenging, yet vital for a company’s
success. Companies need to be sure that their employees are building and developing their
business in order to grow in the markets. However, hiring the best talents is not
straightforward or simple. This study will explore more of the impacts of the company’s core
capabilities to recruitment, as the amount of studies exploring the topic is yet limited. The
topic was seen important for the case company, as the company is struggling to hire new
talented employees. The study was conducted as a single case study, in a small-medium sized
software company, located in the capital area of Finland. The aim of the study was to explore
if the company’s current recruitment is strategic in a way that it utilizes its core capabilities
in the recruitment process in order to leverage its competitive edge.
The case study notified, that there are linking factors between core capabilities and strategic
recruitment process, however, the factors had not been clearly identified by the company.
Therefore, the study provides multiple managerial implications which can be utilized in the
case company, in order to identify the use of core capabilities in strategic recruitment. Based
on the study, it seems vital for the company to identify its capabilities and utilize them in the
recruitment process. Through that, the company can make more suitable hires to its needs.
