Tiivistelmä
Tässä kandidaatin tutkielmassa tutkitaan vastuullista sijoittamista. Tutkielman
empiirinen osuus on rajattu maantieteellisesti Suomen alueelle. Vastuullinen
sijoittaminen on vielä nuori ilmiö Suomessa mutta sen suosio on kasvanut viimeisten
vuosien aikana. Vuonna 2010 perustettu FINSIF (Finnish Sustainable Investment
Forum) keräsi vuoden 2013 loppuun mennessä jo yli 60 jäsentä yhteisöönsä.
Suomessa monien organisaatioiden liiketoiminta perustuu myös YK:n vastuullisen
sijoittamisen periaatteille (engl. Principles of Responsible Investment, PRI), jotka
painottavat ympäristöasioiden ja kestävän kehityksen huomioonottamista
sijoitusprosesseissa ja päätöksenteossa. Tutkielman empiirisessä osiossa tutkittiin
sitä, miten kilpailukykyisiä suomalaisilla osakemarkkinoilla toimivat vastuulliset
rahastot olivat verrattuna markkinaportfolioon. Menestyksen mittareina käytettiin
Sharpen ja Treynorin lukua sekä Jensenin alfaa. Tutkimukseen valittiin yhdeksän
osakerahastoa, joiden varoista vähintään 90 % on sijoitettu osakkeisiin. Rahastojen
ja vertailuindeksin arvonoteeraukset haettiin Thomson Reuters Datastream-
tietokannasta.
sijasta. This bachelor’s thesis examines socially responsible investing. The focus of the
empirical aspect of the study has been centered in Finland. Socially responsible
investing is still a new phenomenon in Finland but its popularity has been rising in the
past few years. FINSIF, cofounded in 2010, gathered over 60 members to its
community by the end of the 2013. Many Finnish organizations’ business is based on
the United Nation’s Principles of Responsible Investment (PRI) that highlights the
importance of taking environmental issues and sustainability into account when
making investment decisions. The performances of socially responsible funds in
Finland were studied in the empirical part of the thesis. Sharpe’s index, Treynor’s
index and Jensen’s alpha were the risk-adjusted measures utilized in the study to
calculate the characteristics of the funds. Nine different equity funds were chosen to
be included in the study and of the assets 90% were invested in equities. The value
of the different funds and market index was taken from Thomson Reuters
Datastream database and used to calculate the returns and volatilities of the funds.
Logarithmic values were calculated from the funds and the market index, Microsoft
Excel was then utilized in order to determine the regression analysis of the different
funds. The best performing fund was the LähiTapiola Hyvinvointi that outperformed
the market index with over six percent. The fund also achieved the best outcomes for
Shape’s index, Treynor’s index, Jensen’s alpha and beta. This fund had the highest
return and lowest volatility over the entire period of the study. The most significant
conclusion of the study was that the socially responsible funds outperformed the
market index. According to the study, we can make rough suggestions that either
investors value the socially responsible funds more highly or they prefer investing in
foreign assets instead of investing in Finnish companies.
