Tiivistelmä
Suomen tavoitteena on nostaa metsähakkeen käyttö 25 TWh:iin vuoteen 2020 mennessä.
Suurin vaikutus hakkuutähdehakkeen kannattavuuteen on hakkeen alhaisella kosteudella. Tutkimuksessa todettiin lisäksi kaukokuljetuskustannusten vaikuttavan erityisen suuresti haketuotannon kannattavuuteen. Finland aims to increase the usage of wood chip up to 25 TWh by year 2020. The success of the target requires that the profitability of the usage and manufactur-ing of wood chop is perceived to be attractive. A major part of Finnish energy wood is got from the logging residue, which is harvested in conjunction with log-ging timber.
The objective of this thesis was to explore the value chain involved in wood chop manufacturing from the perspective of Finnish forest industry company, and to find those parts of the process where most value is produced and also those in which value may be lost.
Apart from the exploration of the value chain, the additional objective of the the-sis was to inspect the possibilities of enhancing the profitability received from log-ging residue in the company under study.
Based on the value chain analysis, the study points out that the greatest value of forest energy is generated as a result of drying. On the contrary, an unnecessari-ly long storage time leads to value loss in the supply chain due to dry matter loss.
Low humidity has the largest effect on the profitability from wood chip. The study also points out, that the costs from long distance transportation have a consider-able effect on the profitability of the supply chain of wood chip.
