We calculate eccentricities in high energy proton-nucleus collisions, by calculating correlation functions of the energy density field of the glasma immediately after the collision event at proper time τ=0+. We separately consider the effects of color charge and geometrical hot spot fluctuations, analytically performing the averages over both in a dilute-dense limit. We show that geometric fluctuations of hot spots inside the proton are the dominant source of eccentricity whereas color charge fluctuations only give a negligible correction. The size and number of hot spots are the most important parameters characterizing the eccentricities.

Evolution of eccentricities induced by geometrical and quantum fluctuations in proton-nucleus collisions
Demirci, S.; Guerrero-Rodríguez, P. (American Physical Society (APS), 2023)We compute the azimuthal eccentricities arising from initial stage fluctuations in high energy proton-nucleus collisions at proper times τ≥0+. We consider two sources of fluctuations, namely the geometrical structure of ... -
Charged-particle multiplicity fluctuations in Pb–Pb collisions at √sNN = 2.76 TeV
ALICE Collaboration (Springer, 2021)Measurements of event-by-event fluctuations of charged-particle multiplicities in Pb–Pb collisions at √sNN = 2.76 TeV using the ALICE detector at the CERN Large Hadron Collider (LHC) are presented in the pseudorapidity ... -
Linearly polarized gluons and axial charge fluctuations in the glasma
Lappi, Tuomas; Schlichting, Sören (American Physical Society, 2018)We calculate the one- and two-point correlation functions of the energy density and the divergence of the Chern-Simons current in the nonequilibrium glasma state formed in a high-energy nuclear collision. We show that the ... -
Evolution of initial stage fluctuations in the glasma
Guerrero-Rodríguez, Pablo; Lappi, Tuomas (American Physical Society, 2021)We perform a calculation of the one- and two-point correlation functions of energy density and axial charge deposited in the glasma in the initial stage of a heavy ion collision at finite proper time. We do this by describing ... -
Creation of quark-gluon plasma droplets with three distinct geometries
PHENIX Collaboration (Nature Research, 2019)Experimental studies of the collisions of heavy nuclei at relativistic energies have established the properties of the quark–gluon plasma (QGP), a state of hot, dense nuclear matter in which quarks and gluons are not bound ...
