Kehittämishanke on toteutettu osana Helsingin Tyttöjen Talon ryhmätoimintaa. Tavoitteena on tarkastella arkeen kytkeytyvän taidetyöskentelyn käyttökelpoisuutta osana Tyttöjen Talon toimintaa.
Käytössä on kolme aineistoa.
This thesis is a development project with the objective to strengthen casual art interventions and human agency in the everyday life of young adults. In this thesis casual art interventions are defined as art related acts in the everyday life and the act of viewing ordinary everyday artefacts, objects, and circumstances as art. The development project has been executed as a part of group activities at Tyttöjen Talo in Helsinki. The objective is to observe the possibilities of utilizing art projects based on everyday life as a part of the activities at Tyttöjen Talo.
The art method used in the development project is called reality tinkering, which was presented in the doctoral dissertation of visual artist Oona Tikkaoja, published in 2021, and defined as a concept where the everyday life and the surrounding reality provide the space and the material for creating art and for observing from an artistic perspective. Reality tinkering is a form of bricolage and a term that means a process or a technique where available materials are combined freely and creatively. Reality tinkering is a form of bricolage where lifelike art is being produced in environments that are not usually defined as spaces for creating art.
There are three source materials utilized in this study. One material has been produced and gathered from development workshops called Art steps into everyday life, which were organized in collaboration with a group of young people at Tyttöjen Talo in Helsinki. The other materials are an interview with PhD Oona Tikkaoja and the previous studies, books and theories chosen for this thesis, discussing how art and everyday life are connected. In the development workshops art was viewed 1. through alternate perspective, 2. through alternate experience and 3. through choosing to act in a different way.
This thesis presents the possibilities that exist in creating art in the surroundings of everyday life, specifically performance art that is connected to reality tinkering, and the significance this action provides for individuals. Questions related to the significance of art become the most relevant. What kind of change could come about in the individual or shared experience of experiencing and observing existence when art is invited to become a part of everyday life? In the context of creative wellbeing this question calls upon the viewpoints of human agency and freedom. The theme of human agency and freedom will be observed in this thesis through social pedagogical framework.
