Kaikista raskauksista kohdunulkoisia on noin yksi prosentti.
The main goal of this thesis was to create a patient guide for patient who have suffered from ectopic pregnancy. This guide was created for the Kanta-Häme Central Hospital’s women’s diseases department and the outpatient department. The aim of the guide is to give information and support for the patients regarding ectopic pregnancy. The focus the thesis is to gather information on how to take care of the patients in the hospital and to use the information to create the patient guide. The aim was also to get as much in-depth knowledge about the patient guidance, especially the psychological treatment of the patients.
In ectopic pregnancy, the fertilized egg is attached in somewhere else than the uterine cavity. In most ectopic pregnancies it is attached to the fallopian tube. Of all the pregnancies, approximately one percent are diagnosed as ectopic pregnancies. For example, previous infections in the pelvis area may be predisposing factors for ectopic pregnancies. The symptoms of ectopic pregnancy vary from mild to life-threatening conditions. The most common are nausea, exceptional bleeding from the vagina and bilateral abdominal pain. The treatments for ectopic pregnancy are follow-up treatment and medical treatment after surgery.
The thesis was implemented as practice-based project thesis. The result of this thesis is patient guide, which includes information regarding ectopic pregnancy, its symptoms, the findings, and the treatment. In addition, the guide includes information for patients about getting pregnant again and instructs the patients about the use of birth control after ectopic pregnancy. Guidance and sufficient care of the patient play a key role in the treatment of the patient.
