Tiivistelmä
The purpose of this thesis was to develop a structured hobby questionnaire and feedback form for the Finnish Model for Hobbies and leisure activities in Helsinki. The main goal of the Finnish model project is to increase the wellbeing of children and young people, by providing free hobbies in accordance with the wishes of children and young people during, or in-connection with the school day.
The target group for Finnish model for leisure activities are all elementary school students from grades three to nine, in Finnish primary schools, a special emphasis is put on children without any hobbies or leisure time activities and children in the risk of being excluded. The purpose of the survey questionnaire was to hear the wishes of students' hobbies and leisure activities, which the Finnish model for Hobbies would be able to better offer accurate and high-quality leisure activities and hobbies to primary school children, in or near their own school. The theoretical framework leans on the involvement of children and young people with theories of participation and inclusion, and promotion of agency, which together form a more child-centred service design.
Methodological starting point was analysing data from previous surveys conducted, gathering field notes, and conducting interviews with professionals working in close connection with the target group. The cognitive requirements of the target group were researched when designing the questionnaires. Benchmarking other municipalities ways of conducting the Finnish model for hobbies and leisure activities, provided possibilities worth considering in the municipality of Helsinki.
The end result consisted of two different questionnaires, different one for lower and upper elementary school students. And a feedback questionnaire designed for the participants who attended to the activities provided by the Finnish model for leisure activities. The questionnaires can be found in the appendices of the thesis.
