Tiivistelmä
The aim of this thesis was to explore what would be the best future model for the case organization to adopt after the pandemic. The case company is an industrial company with approximately 100 white collar employees, and the focus in this research was on the employee point of view. The pandemic which began in March 2020 forced all white-collar employees in the case organization to work remotely when the national remote work guideline came into force. The topic of this thesis and research was selected based on this exceptional situation and the need in the case organization to decide how to continue in the future when the pandemic is over.
In this thesis, the research was executed with mixed methods: theme interviews in groups of different departments and a questionnaire, which was sent to all white-collar employees in the organization by email. The theoretical framework of the thesis consists of existing literature, articles and other materials related to remote work. Theory topics include themes such as preconditions for remote working, virtual teams, self-management and overall possible advantages and disadvantages of remote work and the same themes were covered in the study.
The results of this study identified the remote working experiences of the case organization’s employees, and what are their needs and wishes for the future. The findings reveal a strong will to continue remote work, but different department needs as well as personal preferences should be considered also. As an outcome of the study and theory findings together, a hybrid model suggestion to the organization is compiled. Suggested model can be adopted and further developed in each department and team to suit their work community best. The results of this study can be utilized also in other organizations interested in adopting a hybrid model.
