Tiivistelmä
This thesis aims at gaining insight into the duties nurses perform in the rehabilitation of stroke patients and the significance of cultural awareness and uncertainty in that respect. It uses a qualitative systematic literature review to obtain and analyse articles that form the data used in this study. After careful inclusion and exclusion consideration, 13 articles were deemed qualified and used in the back-and-forth analysis to categorize emerging themes into main themes and sub-themes. Leininger’s Sunrise Enabler and Mishel’s Uncertainty of illness served as theoretical study underpinning. The major findings were that rehabilitation is an important element in mitigating stroke to enable people to get back to normal life – through various interventions. Nurses’ best practices include playing significant roles – leaders in multicultural teams, creators of social interaction, various examinations, making and follow up on care plan among others in this cause of action. Moreover, cultural awareness and uncertainty of illness are important issues that need to be considered in the design and implementation of a stroke rehabilitation programme.
