Tiivistelmä
This thesis is commissioned by Visor Oy, a company which manufactures Scandinavian home window, terrace, and balcony blind designs. The unique designs and products include different sizes and measurements with several features such as UV and heat protection, energy saving and privacy. Visor is considering expanding to the British window blind market in the near future and is in need for background research of the compatibility between the Finnish and British market in this industry.
The aim of this thesis is to research the compatibility between the Finnish market and the British market. This research aims to provide clarity to Visor about the possible opportunities for expanding to the British market and a better understanding of the British culture. Theoretical background including consumer behaviour, market segmentation and comparison of cultural characteristics provided clarity of the level of compatibility between the markets. In addition to desk research about the British market and the compatibility with Visor, the director of a similar British company was interviewed. This research data includes primary and secondary sources, including books, internet, and interview.
According to the research and findings, Visor has a decent opportunity into expanding in the British market, since the markets indicate high levels of compatibility in the window blind industry. The compatibility can be seen through the similar preferences towards the features of window blinds also the similar cultural factors that can be found in both the Finnish and British environment. The thesis including the theories and research methods enhanced the understanding of the compatibility and suitable approaches towards the British market. In sum, the findings provide an answer to the research question, and guide Visor to adopt the overall image to the British market and help plan the next stages for business expansion.
