The purpose of this thesis was to shed light on how public health nurses have experienced the deployment of the new patient healthcare system, and how it has affected their daily work. The topic for the thesis arose from practical needs in the health care district of KHKS after the deployment of the Lifecare patient healthcare system in March 2019. The thesis was done in collaboration with Preventive health services of the city of Hämeenlinna.
The theory part of the thesis focused on the three main points: 1) The significance of an electronic patient healthcare system in patient treatment, 2) the readiness of the health care personnel to use the patient healthcare system, and 3) factors affecting the deployment for use by healthcare professionals. In turn, the research part of the thesis was done as a qualitative research, where the used material was gathered via an electronic questionnaire aimed for the public health nurses and analyzed using appropriate qualitative content analysis.
According to the research results the deployment of the patient healthcare system had been experienced to have gone reasonably well by the public health nurses. Further experiences and views on the usability development needs of the system was highlighted in the results. As a conclusion, it can be stated that further development is needed especially what comes to the end-user needs during the development phase as well as the actual implementation of the system. The research results can be used to improve future healthcare system implementations as well as adoption by healthcare professionals.
