Hanke on osa Seinäjoen kaupungin kulttuurikasvatussuunnitelmaan kuuluvan taidetoiminnan, Taiturin, kehittämistä. Hanke toi sirkuksen uutena taiteen muotona Taiturin taidesisällöksi Seinäjoella. Mielihuvitus!-project explored experiences from circus activities as part of the art contents of early childhood education. The project also asked the participated adults what meanings they give to circus activities. The project offered circus activities for family day care and open early childhood education for adult-child groups. The circus activity was planned and guided by work pair, one of which was an art educator and the other early childhood educator. Multidisciplinary cooperation brought experience of the practices of cooperation between different fields. T
he theoretical framework of the thesis is formed by the early childhood education and care curriculum and the cultural education plan of the city organization. It is examined in the light of Finnish circus activities, Social Circus and the circus art education of the children’s Cultural Center. Information from the project will be used to develop art education activities and the art educations for early childhood educators. The research of the project was carried out by combining qualitative and quantitative methods. Research methods were observation, questionnaires and individual interviews.
The results show that the adult plays a significant role in the implementation of circus activities as the part of child’s artistic experiencing and expressing. The perception of the instructor and the spaces for circus action are also important. With these themes in mind circus activities in early childhood education can be supported from the perspective of both arts and early childhood education.
The themes are an integral part of further development of circus education co-organized by cultural services and early childhood education. Mielihuvitus!-project was produced by the Cultural Services of the City of Seinäjoki and the Children’s Cultural Centre Louhimo. The project is part of the development of cultural education plan and Taituri art activities. Mielihuvitus!-project introduced the circus as a new field of art in Taituri and early childhood cultural education in Seinäjoki.
