Koska koulu-uupumuksen oireiden varhainen tunnistaminen on tärkeää, voisi kouluterveydenhoitaja käyttää BBI-10-koulu-uupumusmittaria terveystarkastuksien yhteydessä yhtenä työkaluna koulu-uupumuksen tunnistamisessa. Lukioissa työskenteleville opettajille tulisi myös kertoa koulu-uupumuksen merkeistä, jotta he voisivat ohjata nuoren avun piiriin, jos nuori oireilee koulussa. Lukiolaisille itselleen olisi tärkeää myös ohjata tunnistamaan merkkejä omassa voinnissaan, mitkä kertovat koulu-uupumisesta. Tutkimustulosten mukaan opiskelijoiden kertomassa näkyi halu saada lisää tukea koulusta ja parempaa ohjausta opinnoissaan, joten näitä tulisi koulun puolesta lisätä. Jatkotutkimusehdotuksena voisi tutkia millaisia auttamismenetelmiä kouluterveydenhoitajat käyttävät työssään auttaessaan uupunutta nuorta. Tätä kautta auttamismenetelmiä voitaisiin kehittää yhä paremmiksi tulevaisuudessa. The purpose of this thesis was to find out methods that could prevent upper secondary school students’ school burnout. The aim of the thesis was to produce information for the development of nursing. This thesis was carried out by using descriptive literature review and the data was analysed by using the deductive content analysis. The data of this thesis was searched by using the following electronic databases: Finna, Tampub, Elektra and Terveysportti.
School burnout is a condition which is caused by prolonged stress because of studying. School burnout occurs as a long-term fatigue, cynical behaviour towards your own studies and as a lack of feeling of inadequacy. Long-term school burnout may lead to later depression or it can cause exclusion from the society. Early intervention and prevention are important because they reduce the outbreak of school burnout.
According to the results, intrinsic factors that increased school enthusiasm and prevented school burnouts were healthy lifestyle, inner motivation, wise time allocation and orderliness. External factors that have been found to prevent school burnout were the balance between spare time and school and hobbies, social life which included friends and the time spent with them and the support given from school and home.
Because the early recognition of the symptoms of school burnout is important, a method that school nurses could use as a prevention against school burnout could be BBI-10-school burnout scale used in health examinations at school. Upper secondary school teachers should be given enough information about the school burnout symptoms so they can guide students to get help if they show signs of the symptoms at school. Information about the symptoms should be given also for the student themselves therefore they could identify changes in their own health. According to the results, upper secondary school students wanted to receive more support at school and get better guiding with their studies, therefore personal student counselling should be increased. Further research proposal could be to find out what kind of methods school nurses use in their work, when they support students who have experienced fatigue. That could tell us how those helping methods could be improved in the future.
