Tiivistelmä
Object of this practise-based thesis is to create a manual for taking care of wounds. The information package was commissioned by the hospice Varpula, which acts as a client of the thesis. With the help of the information package the aim is to help employees to preempt wounds, recognize risk factors for wound formation, to identify different types of wounds and also to give pointers on how to treat different wounds. The staff in Varpula have had various different methods when it comes to treating wounds, so the objective is to unify those methods and to better the understanding of the subject.
The need for the information package came from the wish of the hospice to have a guidebook to help taking care of wounds. The thesis process started in November 2017 and continued until April 2019. The information package was made both in writing and electrically, so that it could be used in the most possi-ble ways in routine of the hospice and so that it could be updated.
The thesis deals with most common wounds that occur in hospice. Types of the most common wounds were found out with an interview with a hospice’s nurse-in-charge. With the help of the interview certain types of wounds were selected. Those were acute wounds, burns, circulatory lower limb wounds, bedsores, diabetic foot wounds and infected wounds. For the wish of the hospice the information package deals with prevention, recording, aseptic taking care of wounds, the importance of nutrition and pains care in taking care of wounds. Theoretical part of the thesis was put together using various different works, studies and articles that deal with the subject.
In the future we could research if the information package has been helpful for the employees of hospice Varpula.
Tarve opinnäytetyölle syntyi hoivakodin toiveesta saada tietopaketti haavanhoitojen tueksi.
