This degree thesis was commissioned by Apollo Live Club, a restaurant that recently opened a terrace bar as an addition to the original restaurant concept. The company did not have up-to-date information about customers’ preferences of a terrace bar and therefore a customer satisfaction survey seemed useful. The purpose of the thesis was to look into customers’ needs and preferences considering Apollo Terrace Bar and to get an understanding of the clientele on the terrace. The survey was conducted via quantitative methodology. During two weeks in September 2016, questionnaires were handed out to the terrace customers and the questionnaire was answered by one hundred respondents. The questionnaire included questions about customers’ background, consumption behavior and opinions of Apollo Terrace Bar. According to the results, the customers seemed quite satisfied with the current product concept on the terrace. The majority of the customers felt that the visit to the terrace met their expectations. The customers liked the general appearance of the place and both customer service and the price level satisfied the most. According to the customers there was, however, some deficiencies in terms of the atmosphere, music and product range. The customers wanted a wider selection of mild alcoholic beverages and the music did not arouse much delight among the majority of the customers. The atmosphere was considered to be affected negatively by the fact that there were not enough other customers. Due to the tough competition in the restaurant industry, the company should react to these quality deficiencies and try to develop the concept towards the customers’ needs and preferences. In the study it even emerged that the customers did not see the terrace as a place they would like to visit after midnight and this could also be addressed by the company. According to the results, the clientele on Apollo Terrace Bar mainly consists of customers in the age of 18-29 and a small part of the customers are in the age of 30-39, the majority of the clientele lives in Helsinki. The respondents in this study had varying consumption behavior and consisted of both students and workers.
