Today there is a huge supply of different kinds of DSLR cameras. It is possible to get the necessary technical camera specs needed from different benchmark-pages. It is also pos-sible to get the information how different cameras score in picture-quality benchmarks.
Lab tests can objectively show how the picture quality differs between the cameras. But how to interpret the practical differences between cameras? The purpose with this thesis is to highlight the visual image quality difference between different DSLR’s. The thesis is defined to compare only cameras with APS-C sensors. A visual camera-test is performed to attain visual differences between three different cameras. The cameras tested are: Can-on EOS 400D, Canon EOS 40D and Canon EOS 60D. The pictures taken from the cam-era-tests are compared by a test group. The test group determines how big the visual dif-ferences between the cameras are. The test-results from the visual tests are compared with results from objective camera-sensor-tests. The objective test results are gathered from the DxOMark’s webpage. DxOMark contains The main source to this thesis. DxOMark is a camera-benchmark database, which publishes camera-sensor tests made by DxO Labs. The results show that there is a slight difference between the objective and the visual test. The camera rankings are the same in both of the tests, but how much the considered image quality differs between the cameras in the different tests is another mat-ter. The results of the visual test shows greater difference between the considered image qualities of the cameras, than the objective tests suggest.
