Temat för konferensen var: Rethinking Asia-Europe Communications: Challenges and Opportunities of Social Media. Asia-Europe Foundation (ASEF) organises summer universities for young people to further cultural and intellectual exchange between people in Asia and Europe. Asia-Europe Foundation Alumni Network (ASEFUAN) is a network for those having attended an ASEF university. In 2009 the Network’s 8th Annual Conference and General Meeting was hosted in Helsinki. The theme of the conference was: Rethinking Asia-Europe Communications: Challenges and Opportunities of Social Media. The aim of this degree thesis was to plan and implement this international conference. The author took part in an organising committee and was responsible for accommodation, transports and social events. The present thesis describes the process of planning, executing and evaluating the conference in light of event life cycle theory. Planning was the most time-consuming phase, while executing entailed most work. In this degree thesis the conference is evaluated through the participants’ feedback and the author’s observations.
