In this bachelor's thesis, the carbon footprint of a Lahti-based company in the field of financial management for the year 2021 is investigated, as well as ways to reduce it. The calculation part of the work is performed using data received from the company, and by using the Greenhouse Gas Protocol's Corporate Standard. The theoretical part of the work demonstrates the importance of carbon footprint calculation and presents internationally widely used carbon footprint calculation methods as well as environmental and social responsibility reporting tools.
The most important result of the work is the 2021 carbon footprint of the investigated company, which is approximately 86 598 kg CO2e. The most significant factors affecting the carbon footprint are employees' commuting, purchases of electronic devices and purchased energy. In the work, ways were found for the company under review to reduce its carbon footprint. The most important methods found are investigating the possibility to change to emission-free district heating and lowering emissions from commuting by increasing remote work and encouraging commuting by public transport and muscle power. Also, by extending the life cycle of electronic devices and thereby purchasing devices less often, the company's carbon footprint over several years can be reduced, but the results may not be visible every year.
