Tiivistelmä
There are many different processes in the plastics industry, as in industry in general, that generate waste. In cast film extrusion, the amount of waste is increased by production interruptions caused by cleaning the residues that accumulates on the surface of the cooling roll.
The purpose of the literature part of this thesis is to elucidate the theory of extrusion and cleaning chemicals, as well as the relevant concepts related to them. In addition, possible devices used to automate roll washing are mapped out.
In the experimental part of the thesis, the composition of the residues accumulating on the surface of the cooling roll is investigated by means of FTIR analyzes and melting point determinations. The thesis examines the residues arising from the manufacture of a total of four different products. In addition, the use of water as a cleaning chemical is being tested to replace the current solvent, ethyl acetate.
Based on the results obtained in the thesis, it is possible to clean the residues accumulating on the roll edges with water. However, it was found that water is not suitable for cleaning the center of the roll because the composition of the residues accumulating on the surface of the roll differs between the center and the edges. Due to differences in the composition of the residues, no cleaning chemical was found for the complete replacement of ethyl acetate. However, it is possible to automate, at least in part, the cleaning of the roll with a cleaning device integrated in the production line. Muoviteollisuudessa, kuten teollisuudessa yleisestikin, on paljon erilaisia prosesseja, joissa syntyy jätettä. Tasokalvoekstruusiossa jätteen määrää kasvattaa jäähdytystelan pintaan kerääntyvän lian puhdistamisesta aiheutuvat tuotantokatkot.
Tämän työn kirjallisuusosassa tarkoituksena on selvittää teoriaa ekstruusion ja pesukemikaalien osalta, sekä näihin liittyviä oleellisia käsitteitä. Lisäksi kartoitetaan mahdollisia telanpesun automatisointiin käytettäviä laitteita.
Työn kokeellisessa osassa selvitetään jäähdytystelan pintaan kertyvien jäämien koostumusta FTIR ja sulamispiste analyysien avulla. Työssä tutkitaan yhteensä neljän eri tuotteen valmistuksesta syntyviä polymeerijäämiä. Lisäksi veden käyttöä puhdistuskemikaalina testataan, nykyisen liuottimen, etyyliasetaatin, korvaamiseksi.
Työssä saatujen tulosten perusteella telan laitoihin kertyvät likapartikkelit on mahdollista puhdistaa vedellä. Telan puhdistus on kuitenkin ainakin osittain mahdollista automatisoida tuotantolinjaan integroitavalla puhdistuslaitteella.
