Tiivistelmä
Tutkielman tavoitteena on saada selville, kuinka vastuullinen sijoitusstrategia on menestynyt Helsingin pörssissä vuosien 2016–2021 aikana. Tulosten epäjohdonmukaisuuden syyksi on esitetty monia vaihtoehtoja.
Korkean ESG-pisteytyksen portfolio menestyi vertailuportfoliota paremmin kaikilla mittareilla. Markkinaindeksi menestyi myös matalan pisteytyksen portfoliota paremmin kaikilla mittareilla. The aim of the thesis is to find out how the responsible investment strategy has performed on the Helsinki Stock Exchange during 2016-2021. Responsible investing is a growing phenomenon with no end in sight. Responsible investing has been the subject of much research throughout the millennium, but the results have varied widely. Many options have been put forward to explain the inconsistency of the results. The paper creates two portfolios, the first based on high ESG scores and the second based on low ESG scores. These portfolios will be compared with each other, and both will be benchmarked against the Helsinki Stock Exchange Return Index. Four measures are used: cumulative return, Treynor and Sharpe ratios and Jensen's alpha.
According to the results of the study, responsible investing has not produced a clear risk- adjusted excess return compared to the market, but the cumulative return has been clearly better. The results across portfolios are clear. The portfolio with the high ESG score outperformed the benchmark portfolio on all measures. The market index also outperformed the low-scoring portfolio on all measures.
