Suunnitelmissa ehdotetaan siirtymistä Loviisan voimalaitoksella olevaan kahden eri suunnitelmatyypin malliin. Työssä arvioitiin myös Microshield -säteilymallinnusohjelmiston käyttöä säteilysuojelusuunnitelmien tukena vertaamalla ohjelman tuloksia Olkiluodossa tehtyihin MADAC-gammaspektrometrimittauksiin. Näiden perusteella pystyttiin todentamaan, että Microshield on sopiva säteilysuojelun tarpeisiin. Protection from radiation is an integral and constantly improving part of nuclear power plants. In this master’s thesis that is done for TVO’s radiation protection team the forementioned improvement was done by identifying weaknesses in work planning at Olkiluoto NPP and proposing solutions to the found weaknesses.
Weaknesses were identified by conducting a survey and interviews at Olkiluoto. In addition information was gathered from other plants by collecting public data and sending emails. With this the major challenges were identified to include the work planning software, radiation work permits and larger radiation work plans. During this process some immediate action requiring faulty features were identified in the software.
Detailed improvements were created for each weakness found during the thesis. Improvements in the software revolved around being able to change old permits, easing the saving of information and improving the automatically filling information boxes. Improvements in the work permit focused on readability and condensing the old information in the permit while also adding new information. For the larger work plans it was proposed that Olkiluoto would change to the Loviisa style of having two different types of plans. To help with creating the plans the use of Microshield software to do radiation calculations was also explored. The validity of the program was tested by comparing its results with ones gained from MADAC-gamma spectrometry measurements done at Olkiluoto. Based on these comparisons it was deemed that Microshield is sufficient for radiation protection calculations.
