Tiivistelmä
Tämän kandidaatintyön tavoitteena on selvittää aurinkolämmön käyttömahdollisuuksia kaukolämpöratkaisuissa pohjoisilla leveysasteilla.
The aim of this bachelor’s thesis is to research the potential of solar thermal solutions in district heating in northern latitudes. The thesis examines the technology required for solar thermal energy, different ways of integrating solar thermal energy into district heating and the functionality and usability of existing solar thermal solutions. The research methodology is based on literature review, using scientific articles, company websites and related literature as source.
Solar thermal systems usually operate as hybrid system alongside another form of heat production. This reduces the use of fossil fuels and saves on fuel costs. With energy storages, solar thermal energy can be utilised all year round, even if the sun is not always shining.
The use of solar thermal energy has been studied through simulations and feasibility studies. In addition, solar thermal energy is already being used for district heating even in northern latitudes. Denmark is the world leader un use of solar thermal energy, both in terms of capacity and the number of systems installed. Examples can also be found elsewhere in Europe and i.a. in Canada. Finland has also started to use solar thermal energy and even a few district heating solutions have been developed. The development of energy storage technologies creates even better conditions for the use of solar thermal energy all year round. Of course, a better understanding of the costs and management of solar thermal power plants is needed before large scale operations.
