Tiivistelmä
Työssä on tarkoituksena selvittää sähköstaattisten sähkökoneiden toimintaperiaatetta, historiaa sekä yleisimpiä tämän päivän käyttökohteita ja sovelluksia. Lisäksi vertaillaan sähköstaattisten sähkökoneiden ominaisuuksia sähkömagneettisten sähkökoneiden ominaisuuksiin. Selvitystä varten tietoa aiheesta etsitään siihen liittyvien tutkimuksien raporteista, patenteista ja tekniikan alan uutisista. Työtä voidaan hyödyntää tiedonlähteenä myöhemmin esimerkiksi opetusmateriaalia tehdessä.
Sähköstaattiset sähkökoneet toimivat sähkömagneettisen induktion hyödyntämisen sijaan erimerkkisten sähkövarausten välille syntyviä sähköstaattisia työntö- ja vetovoimia hyödyntämällä. Niiden huomattavimpia hyviä puolia ovat rakenteen yksinkertaisuus, keveys sekä pienen kokoluokan sovelluksissa muihin moottorityyppeihin verrattuna suuri teho massaan nähden. Kilogrammojen kokoluokassa taas eräässä tutkimuskäyttöön rakennetussa sähköstaattisessa sähkömoottorissa on saatu aikaan 7,5 kV jännitteellä suurimmillaan 0,7 Nm suuruinen vääntömomentti.
The purpose of this thesis is to find out the operating principle, history and the most common applications and ways to use of electrostatic electrical machines today. In addition, the properties of electrostatic electrical machines are compared with the properties of electromagnetic electrical machines. For the study, information on the topic is sought in related research reports, patents and technology news. Thesis can be utilized as a source of information later, for example when making teaching materials.
Instead of utilizing electromagnetic induction, electrostatic electrical machines operate by utilizing the electrostatic repulsion and traction forces generated between different electrical charges. Their most notable advantages are the simplicity of the structure, the lightness and, in small size applications, the high power in relation to mass compared to other engine types. In the size class of kilograms, on the other hand, an electrostatic motor have been built for research use that produced a maximum torque of 0.7 Nm at a voltage of 7.5 kV. This was achieved with an engine with a mass of about 6.92 kg.
Thesis revealed that there are currently almost no electrostatic electrical machines in mass production. They are mainly used as part of microelectromechanical systems as well as in really few other applications. Electrostatic motors require remarkably high voltages to operate compared to electromagnetic motors and still produce less torque. One company has tried to bring its motor, which is larger than those motors familiar from microelectromechanical systems, to market, but concrete figures about them such as torque have not yet been published.
