In this paper the problems of industrial companies in warehouse management are taken into examination. The goal of this study is to find out the problems of industrial companies in warehouse management, clarify why the problems occur and also to give propositions to fix the problems found. In this study the current state of the warehouse management in Finland will be taken into examination and also the reasons why the founded problems are occurring. The research questions will be answered with the data gained from the inquiry sent to industrial companies and also to other branch of businesses.
Based on the results the biggest problems can be found from the lack of support for the FIFO-method in the warehouse management softwares, negligence of workplace organization and cleanliness 5S methods second phase called “organization” and the lack of knowledge of the amount of the waste occurring in the process of manufacturing the products. It is also clear based on the results that effectiveness of picking items increases remarkably when the locations of the items have been specified with the exact locations.
The problems found in this study are being analyzed with the theory and other studies of Lean manufacturing with goal to recognize especially all the waste occurring from the problems and also to find solutions and ways to develop the ways of work.
