Tiivistelmä
Tämän tutkimuksen tavoitteena oli selvittää kartonkivuoka-aihioon tehtyjen reikien vaikutusta vuoan puristusmuovausprosessiin. Aihioihin tehtyjen reikien määrää, kokoa ja sijaintia vaihdeltiin, jotta saatiin selville reikien vaikutus prosessin lopputulokseen. Lisäksi prosessin aikana aihiota paikallaan pitävää voimaa vaihdeltiin, jotta rei’itettyjä aihioita voitiin vertailla reiättömään aihioon.
Tutkimuksessa kartongin vetolujuuden perusteella määriteltiin ensin suurin laskennallinen määrä reikiä, jolla vuoan pitäisi kestää repeämättä. Laskujen perusteella tehtiin valmistuspiirustukset kuudelle eri aihiolle.
The goal of this bachelor’s thesis was to determine the effect of blank hole pattern of paperboard tray in press forming process. In this study the amount, size and location of holes made into the tray blank were varied in order to find out their effect into the outcome of the process. Also the blank holding force was varied during the process in order to compare the holed blanks with a normal blank without holes.
In this study the tensile strength of the paperboard was used in order to calculate the theoretical amount of holes the tray should be able to withstand during the process. Based on the calculations, six different blank hole patterns were designed. The designed blanks were cut and after that the trays were manufactured. During the test runs the blank holding force was increased until the trays failed in the process.
As a result, all but one of the designed blank hole patterns were able to withstand significantly higher forces than what was expected based on the calculations, Most holed blanks behaved similarly to normal blanks during the manufacturing process. Based on the results, the most critical property of the hole pattern is the location of the holes. The trays that failed with the lowest forces had holes closest to the tray corners, and thus closer to the trays creases.
The reason for this kind of holed blank behavior could be the moisture that is transferred through the holes during the process, which lowers the friction coefficient between tools and the trays plastic coating. A second reason might be other phenomena unrelated to the tensile strength of the paperboard, which were not discussed in this study. Based on this study the amount of holes in the tray blank can be increased as long as they are not positioned too close to the corners of the tray. The future of holed trays based on manufacturability seems bright as the manufacturing and sealing can be completed with similar machinery as normal trays.
