Abstract
Mechanism of deformation twinning during tensile straining of an Fe-0.013C-29Mn-2.4Al steel is reported. Transmission electron microscopy examinations revealed that twinning occurred through a modified pole mechanism proposed by Niewczas and Saada. In this mechanism, twinning Shockley partial dislocations and their stacking faults are formed through interaction among the prismatic dislocations with Frank partials of the Frank dipoles. The activation of the observed pole mechanism was explained through the length of the sessile Frank partials.
