Tiivistelmä
Tämän tutkimuksen tarkoituksena oli kuvata autististen lasten vanhempien kokemuksia perheen saamasta tuesta. Tutkimuksen tuottamaa tietoa voidaan hyödyntää terveydenhuollon palvelujärjes-telmässä suunniteltaessa autististen lasten ja perheiden palveluita paremmin perheiden tarpeita vastaaviksi.
Tutkimusaineisto kerättiin yksilöhaastatteluina. Haastattelumenetelmänä käytettiin avointa haastattelua. Aineistonkeruu suoritettiin haastattelemalla autististen lasten ja nuorten vanhempia. Tutkimuksen haastateltavina oli kahdeksan suomalaista autistisen lapsen vanhempaa. Haastateltavat saatiin Autismi ja Aspergerliitto ry:n jäsenyhdistysten kautta. Tutkimusaineisto kerättiin kevään 2014 aikana. Aineisto analysoitiin induktiivisella sisällönanalyysillä.
Autististen lasten vanhemmat kokivat tarvitsevansa jaksamista parantavia palveluita arkeen. Lapsen diagnoosin saaminen vaikutti olevan edellytys muiden tukien saamiselle. Erityislapsen käytös vaikutti kielteisesti perheen muihin sisaruksiin.
Tämän tutkimuksen kautta saatiin uutta tietoa autististen lasten vanhempien kokemuksista perheen saamasta tuesta. Tulosten perusteella voidaan suositella, että autististen lasten perheiden palveluiden saatavuutta ja palveluista tiedottamista tulisi parantaa. Autististen lasten perheet tarvitsevat palveluohjausta ja perheiden tarvitsemat tuet ja palvelut tulisi saada nykyistä joustavammin. Tieto autististen lasten vanhempien kokemuksista tulisi ottaa huomioon palveluiden suunnittelussa. Lisäksi vanhemmat tarvitsevat varhaisessa vaiheessa asiallista tietoa autismista. Sen lisäksi myös viranomaisten autismitietoisuutta tulisi lisätä.
ABSTRACT
The purpose of this study was to describe the experiences of the autistic children s parents on the received family support. The produced research data can be used in the designing processes of the health care services, concerning the autistic children and their families, in order to make their needs to be met more appropriately.
The research data were collected through individual interviews. The applied interviewing method was an open interview. The data collection was carried out by interviewing the parents of autistic children or adolescents. The interviewees of this study were eight Finnish parents of autistic children. These interviewees were recruited through the member associations of the Finnish Association for Autism and Asperger s syndrome. The data was collected during spring 2014. The data were analyzed using inductive content analysis.
The parents of the autistic children felt that they needed services, which would promote the everyday life coping. The received diagnosis of the child was seen as a premise for getting other forms of support. The coping of the parents was experienced to be promoted by the identification of the needs of the special child in the day care and school. In addition, the support received from the next-of-kin, peer, and the authorities were experienced as promoters of better coping. The parents experienced the inadequate services, the schooling difficulties, the surly attitude of the authorities, and the lack of understanding from the next-of-kin as issues which increased the work-load of the family. The mothers reported becoming exhausted from supporting other family members. Again, the other family members were burdened with the mother s exhaustion. The behavior of the special child had a negative impact on the other siblings of the family.
Through this study new knowledge was obtained concerning the autistic children s parents experiences on the received family support. According to the results, it can be recommended that the services concerning the families of autistic children should be more readily available and the existence of these services should be well communicated. The families of the autistic children need service advice, and the needed support and services should be more flexibly reached. The knowledge on the parents experiences should be taken into account when designing the services. In addition, the parents need adequate knowledge on autism at an early stage. Furthermore, the autism awareness of the authorities should also be increased.
