Ajatus video DVD:n valmistamisesta syntyi toimintaterapian lehtorin Jaana Ritsilän toiveesta. The thesis is about occupational therapy for children with cerebral palsy and it was produced both in written form and on DVD-format. The goal was to gather a comprehensive picture of the occupational therapy for children with cerebral palsy. The aim of the thesis was to increase the knowledge of occupationaltherapy for children with cerebral palsy. The target groups of the thesis are the students of occupational therapy and healthcare professionals, as well as professionals within the social services. The goal was also to increase awareness about occupational therapy, and to show the different methods that can be used inthe rehabilitation of a child with cerebral palsy. The rehabilitation of a child with cerebral palsy is always carefully planned, and the child's personality and the environment are always taken into account. The different environments where the child spends his/her time can be home, kindergarten or school. In the therapy environment, the rehabilitation of the child is goal orientated and often multi-professional. The DVD produced by the thesis, has been filmed in home environment and in therapy environment. The idea for the DVD came from Senior Lecturer of Occupational therapy, Jaana Ritsilä. Any previous similar video material does not exist. From the point of view of learning, the DVD helps to understand who the occupational therapist is, what the therapist does and how the child with cerebral palsy is helped by the therapy. It also deals with what abilities and skills can be learned and exercised through occupational therapy. In the DVD there are examples of occupational therapy intervention situations and the viewer can make his or her own observations, about the capacities of the child with cerebral palsy, and also about how the occupational therapist works in the intervention situation.
